Thumbs up 2010 Jersey International Air Rally

    Hello everyone,

I have recently discovered your forum and would like to inform you about the 2010 Jersey International Air Rally.

We have our Guest of Honour, Fergus Woods, the Director of Civil Aviation for Guernsey and Jersey. He is a true friend of General Aviation and it is an honour to have him attend the Rally as Guest of Honour.

We can announce that we already have 7 entries for the Rally, from UK, France, Germany and Norway. Those of you that want to enter the competition for longest distance travelled need to get your charts out, to see if you can win.
We have had a winner from South England in this trophy, with some serious flying to the far north of Scotland, before realising the DI was incorrectly set?

The application form is ready and posted on the club website for you to download, complete and return to the Jersey Aero Club. Jersey Aero Club - 2010 Rally Entry Form

We have a limited special offer for the rally entrants who want a single occupancy room, ₤60 off the single rate, if you book before 28th February.

This offer only applies to the first 10 single rooms reserved, Friday & Saturday night only, and cannot be used in conjunction with the Sunday night free offer.

Book now, to avoid disappointment for either you or your friends!

We also have the ₤10 reduction per room (double occupancy) offer if you send your application form and deposit before 28th February; this covers Friday, Saturday and the optional free Sunday night.

Use the application form from our website (or club flying room) and return it, completed, to the Jersey Aero Club.

You now have less than 1 month to enter, to enjoy these discounts, don’t delay enter today!

Jersey’s Aviation Fuel prices in January were:

    AVGAS ₤1.07
    Jet A1 ₤0.75

    AOPA Member discounted price:

    AVGAS ₤1.02
    Jet A1 ₤0.70

If you are flying from the UK, don’t forget your draw back allowance for fuel carried south of the 50˚N parallel.
Imagine a state of nirvana, tax back from the UK government, subsidising your fun over Normandy finding clues and winning prizes, followed by a fill at almost 50% off the price of fuel in one or two airports in the UK.

No need to imagine; it will be here, in May, in Jersey!

    Happy landings

Thumbs up Rally Update & Reminder

    Hello Everyone,

A quick update and reminder of time running out to enjoy the discounted rates.

    The French start point?
We are still waiting for a response from the French Authorities regarding customs facilities at Lessay. It looks increasingly likely that Cherbourg will be the starting point for the rally.

When you arrive at the Aero Club, from now until the Rally, on a well earned weekend away, you will see a banner from airside, inviting you and other visitors to return for the 2010 Jersey International Air Rally.

Don’t forget to reserve your Sunday Lunch with Luc and Edith at Cherbourg Airport (on the application form), not only will you experience their Europe wide, well loved Norman hospitality, but also you will be able to take good quality wines and spirits back home at EEC allowances, your biggest problem will be weight and balance calculations.

We have a new leaflet for you to download and display in your Flying Club, you will find it at:
Jersey Aero Club - 2010 Rally Poster

    Finally, the February fuel prices:

    AVGAS ₤1.12
    Jet A1 ₤0.75

    AOPA Member discounted price:

    AVGAS ₤1.07
    Jet A1 ₤0.70

    Thumbs up Rally Update

    Hello Everyone,

I have a couple of updates for you.

    First the March Fuel prices:

    Same as February, AVGAS ₤1.12
    AVGAS AOPA PRICE ₤1.07
    JET A1 ₤0.70

Second great news for the teams that consist of odd numbers:

If you require single occupancy of a room and only plan to stay Friday and Saturday night you can still get a great discount compared to the normal single rate.

We have just 7 rooms left for those who wish to have the privacy of single room occupancy at the special offer of ₤50 off the normal price, the ₤10 difference expired at the end of February.

This means you will pay only ₤293 instead of ₤343 for a single room.
(This does not apply if you wish to enjoy the free Sunday Night offer)

If a single entrant, register now, you will not regret it.

    Happy landings

    Thumbs up Rally Update

    Hello Everyone,

I hope you are haven a nice weekend.

I have a couple of updates for the Rally:

We can confirm Lessay as our start airfield for the competitions.
There will be customs and immigration available on this field for the day.

This year you will collect your navigation exercise clues from Lessay.

    Start studying your plates;
SIA - La référence en information aéronautique

    https://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv...set_aip_uk.htm

    https://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv..._AD-2.LFOM.pdf

(While you are online, you might as well get the Cherbourg plates from the same site, for a viable alternate and for the Sunday when we go for lunch.)

We are happy to announce that Cirrus will be displaying an SR22 outside the club house. More info on their web site.

Sniff it, kiss it and paw it, you know you want to

As more updates come, I will let you know.

Don’t forget out limited offer for those who wish to stay Friday & Saturday and require a single room, we can offer ₤50 discount, limited to availability, so book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. (Offer cannot be used in conjunction with the Sunday Night Free offer)

    Smile Quick Update

    Hello Everyone,

    A quick update.

I have been asked to inform all the people who cannot make up their minds and do not want to commit yet ( I know a lot of ladies reading will be nodding their heads knowingly) that we will accept entries to the rally up to 1 week before the rally itself.

Unfortunately, if you leave it this late, we cannot guarantee the hotel even though we will help you and try to get the accommodation you require.

So, to avoid disappointment, sign up sooner rather than later.

    Bye for now.

    Thumbs up Competition Info

    Hello Everyone,

I hope this latest lot of bad weather hasn’t caused you too much trouble.

Where I am, it has rained heavily in the afternoon for the last 7 days, but it is a pleasant change from the usual sweltering 35˚C+ 

I have been told I can inform you about the competitions:

There are, hang on while I count on my fingers & toes, 14 trophies to be won, the first six are the main competitions that make up the seventh, the Grand Prix.

1, The overhead arrival at Lessay.
You will be assigned a time to arrive overhead, closest to your requested arrival time.
You will have points deducted for every second you are out from the scheduled arrival time.
    2, The timed circuit.
As you arrive you will immediately start to fly a 5 minute timed circuit, stopping the watch when your wheels touch the ground on a touch and go.
Points will be deducted as competition 1
    3, Spot landing competition.
On the climb out from the timed circuit, you will enter a shorter circuit to culminate in the spot landing; then taxi to the parking area.

You will have 1 hour on the ground at Lessay, during this time you will receive clues and prepare your navigation for the treasure hunt.
(A word of advice, bring a NW France chart, a ruler, a protractor and maybe a whiz wheel)

    4, The Aerial Treasure Hunt.
You will depart from Lessay one hour after landing and the clues given for the Treasure Hunt. After the last waypoint you will fly onwards towards La Roque in Jersey.
(Your departure time will be recorded)
5, Timed arrival at La Roque.
We will calculate the time for you to fly the course and onwards to Jersey, based on the TAS that you supply to us.
Points will be deducted as competition 1
6, The Safety & Airmanship competition.
Upon arrival at the club you will be judged for safety practise and handed a written competition testing your knowledge.
(I can tell you to make sure you have information about all the airfields the rally visits this year)

7, The Grand Prix is awarded to the highest cumulative score of the first 6 competitions.

    8, Concourse d’elegance.
If you think your aircraft will be the prettiest in the rally, enter it when you arrive and our judges will make a fair assessment of your pride and joy.
9, Longest distance flown to get to the rally.
If you want to enter this competition, tell us upon your arrival and we will judge your distance from your submitted Plogs and Flight Plans. Valid legs start at 05.00UTC on Thursday.
One year we had a winner that came from the South of England, but went to the far North of Scotland before turning around & coming back!
    10, Surprise competition.
This is a fun competition on the Saturday, It can be anything from fishing for plastic fish, to a car treasure hunt around the island. Even I don’t know yet.
    11, Inter Club competition.
This is a prize awarded to the highest scoring, in competitions 1 – 6, team entered.
A team is 3 aircraft or more.
    12, Best First Time Entrant.
All people who attend the rally for the first time are entered into this sub competition; the winner will be the highest scoring, in competitions 1 – 6, ‘first timer’.
13, Best Competitor in a twin engined aircraft.
The competitors that do the best, in competitions 1 – 6, whilst flying a twin engined aircraft will win this prize.
    14, Best low hour crew.
The crew that scores the highest points in competitions 1 – 6 but has a cumulative total hours figure of under 250 hours for all licence holders will win this trophy.
A competition for the newer and less frequent pilots amongst us.

I will post more information as I get it.

    Happy Landings
