    Default iPhone apps for flying?

Does anyone use any decent apps for flying? It's upgrade time and the new iphone has got me considering ditching my beloved Blackberry and finally going over to the world of apple! What will swing it for me is the apps. I see Sporty's do a pretty nifty looking E6B app and was just wondering what else is out there and if they are actually practical

I have a few aviation apps some I use more than others
    - LogTen Pro - a really good log book app, acts as a backup to my paper logbook although a very expensive £50ish
    - Met Office - good for an overview of the weather
    - I used to have an app that gave me METARs and TAFs for airfields but I generally use a website for this now.
    - PToolbox - has a few good tools and conversions that are useful
    - NOTAM helper - a dictionary of NOTAM abbreviations that you might have problems with
    - WhizWheel - used this rather than the traditional whiz wheel during training to work out tracks, headings, drift, time etc etc. Much easier than fiddling with a wheel.

Many of these are free or 69p. Some apps can be very expensive and therefore haven't tried a lot of them. But I often download free apps to see if I like them or not. Hope this helps

I really want LogTen Pro, bit pricey though as you can write yourself one for free on excel, that said it would be brilliant on an iPad/phone.

NOTAM Helper is my favourite ap. There is always something in a TAF, METAR, NOTAM, SIGMET etc that I don't understand so this is really handy to whip out. I also use AirportCodes to find out ICAO identifiers for airports and also FlightAware to track inbound flights because I'm a geek!

I use a few good Apps on my iPad2.

Pilot Calcs and Pilots Hndbk. The latter is more like your PPL learning books.

Here's the site from Pilot Calcs...

PtoolBox - Plenty of features and Free
TAFsMetars - Does what it says and Free

As for logbook backup, simple solution; when you fill a page with entries simply photocopy at the club/crew room and keep it at home.

Thanks all. This thing is amazing and from your responses I'm wondering if I'm the last person in the world to get an iphone! I am like a kid with a new toy and am downloading all your suggestions and I guess over time I'll see which ones I use. A few more here: http://aviatorapps.com/

    Indeed its a great device.

I just hope they sort out that thing when you put it on flight mode and it turns the GPS off.

My first instructor mentioned that his 3GS didn't do this so all the Aviation Apps that used the GPS, worked in flight. Sadly no longer the case.

I'm sure they'll sort it out eventually, unless its some kind of security anti-terrorism thing.
