    Default Airline Pilot Pay Survey

I just came across this survey (I know its stateside but probably similar situation here)

FltOps.com - Guiding Pilots to their Professional Goals

What other industry do you pay so much for your training, put so much work into and end up on £14000? (see US Airways first year FO $21600)

Plus over there you cant get in the right hand seat on 200 hours so they will have already spent a couple of years instructing for peanuts!

You seriously need to have the bug to be doing this!

I agree with you but then what other industry do you get to hurtle down a runway with a couple of jets strapped to your ass?! It all comes down to supply and demand and if people weren't prepared to do it the airlines would have no choice but pay more and take the burden off the training costs. Plus times are rough and when they improve and there is once again a shortage of pilots, the pay will creep back up and the sponsorships might start popping up again

    Spot on!

People do it not only for what is thought to be a decent salary to get you by in life but for the massive package you get with it. For many its an ambition, and accompanying your salary you get job benefits and discounts, the feeling of being in charge of 300 people, the satisfaction of flying half way around the world to different locations, the sights you see are stunning and any man that doesnt want to fly a plane at 500mph probably isn't thinking straight- the lifestyle is something totally unique!

As it's said, the salary will creep up with economic growth and pilot shortage, and once you get your foot in the door it will remain steady and worth while anyway.
