    What jobs!?

www.pilotjobsnetwork.com is a really good source for finding out whos hiring and whos not, and when they are hiring what their basic selection involves and an outline of the company position in the market.

    Cheers Hotdog
Had a look and it makes an interesting read. Nothing for low hour pilots! Im 36 so realistically only ever hope to instruct but how do newbies ever hope to get started? Even if you build time instructing they still seem to want jet time (even the operator from Afghanistan!) Guess it is just a sign of the times and will get better with the economy

I secured my place training with CTC Wings Cadets, which involves a 6 month jet line training experience where you get about 800 hours or so on a 737, A320 (after your type rating) with a partner airline to start you off, and after I hope that it will either secure me a full time contract or get me kick started into applications for airlines. The course is a fully integrated one and if your lucky enough like myself you automatically get the line training guarenteed with whatever aircraft you are type rated on at the end.

Its a shame the economy is so poor at the minute, low houred pilots are struggling along with experienced pilots. When the economy gets better airlines do take young individuals with low hours- they see it as a long term investment- 'fresh meat' from a strict integrated training course that will accept a low pay salary, or something along those lines!

I think the first trick will be to wait for the upturn and in prep for that get yourself with the best flying school you can get into, the best grades in education (probably a bit late now for most!), first time CPL/IR pass rates and if possible a decent CV to churn out for the applications.

As usual Hotdog good advice. And from what I see of CTC you don't even start your training unless you are up to it and you are the type of person the airlines want. I have seen many people go the modular route and land a job at the end of it but I have seen a lot more spend a lot of money and from the beginning they were never going to make it. I do think it is a good time to start training though because by the time youve finished and built a few hours we must be in an upturn. They wouldnt be planning new runways at London airports unless there was going to be a lot more air travel in the future.

Unfortunatly that was my thinking when I enrolled last September- 2 weeks too late to get the unsecured finance arrangement!

The recession has really screwed things up, the general forecast from what I hear from pilots and CTC is that it will take a couple more years for the recruitment to pick up which unfortunatly means we will be doing something else for the mean time- possibly become contract pilots if we are lucky. The opinion is however that when it does pick up there will be a shortage of pilots- its happened before and this time it will happen again meaning there will be plenty of opportunity- hence why airports are expanding and airline's orders are set to arrive in 2011/12

I hear this from many people- pilots who have spent lifetimes in the industry, especially being in the flying environment all the time and keeping my ears pricked up with everything to do with recruitment it seems that the general view is by 2012 we should all be generally happy employed pilots! Meanwhile I will have to worry about how I will keep current with no job!
