Looks like its a Cessna 172!
Looks like I will be going to a Cessna 172N (G-BUJN) at the new club!
Initial thoughts were a Piper Warrior, but I have been convinced.
Something different once again but I am not sure about the high-wing thing yet lol!

Its a nice little aircraft you will like it! I did about 70 hours on one in New Zealand, not the best for ability to see out safely in my opinion, but pretty ideal for navigation because you can see down quite well =) I'm sure you will enjoy it

Indeed - I've only flown low-wing aircraft so it will be interesting.
At least I know its two seconds and I can be in a Warrior in the blink of an eye for the next lesson!
Just thought i'd give it a try as you can't really know until you've done it!

Went today and enjoyed it a lot!
Flew 3 circuits to get the feel for the Cessna then out over Stratford for some slow flight with flap.
The Instructor was happy with my flying and felt that I could just continue the syllabus as normal.
All good - time for a few more before Winter closes in then fresh at it in the New Year!

Remind me Chris where are you flying from again? Wellesbourne?
Glad you enjoyed it anyway. I think they are quite 'stable' little things to fly, easily trimmed etc

Hi Morbz,
Yea Wellesbourne, I went with Take Flight in the end!
I found it quite a joy really - I will never get excited over Glass Cockpits again - normal gauges are so much nicer to fly on. Less distractions and less lag! I found myself flying far more accurately and the comfortably at those speeds and enjoying the view out a lot more!
-
You're certainly getting used to a variety of types Chris! Looks like a nice example from the exterior and as someone who is yet to join this century and fly anything with a glass cockpit Im thrilled you're liking the old steam gauges!
-
Hi Paul,
The Warrior I originally flew for the first 8 hours had standard gauges, and it only took 30 seconds to realise how much I missed them when I was flying the C172.
To me the Glass just adds too much information at student level - even a standard gauge simulator on the glass cockpit would suit me better than the full-screen Artificial Horizon.
I find that I hold altitudes and headings nicely on standard gauges and dont have to deal with any lag or information overload!

chris sorry for the dumb ass questionhave i missed something i thought you was flying out of half penny green?
whats changed? price of lessons etc
i hopefully will be flying from wellsbourne in the new year haven,t quite made my mind up on what school to fly with are you a member at take flight now whats the place like ?

Hi Jiggers!
Haha yea I moved to Wellesbourne, 15mins closer to home, and about £30-£40 cheaper per hour than the Cirrus!
I was sad to leave Flight Academy as I had developed a good relationship with my Instructor and in a recent chat he said he was said to hear that I was leaving the school but he understood financial pressures on learning to fly play a huge factor.
I am now at Take Flight which works completely different to my last school and takes a bit of getting used to. However its a nice atmosphere with the benefits of you coming and going as you please and a wide fleet of aircraft at great prices.
I was a bit unsure about taking the C172 when it was offered, since I had never flown a high-wing aircraft before and this being my first flight in an aircraft with standard gauges since September 2009 (last flight in the Warrior @ 8 Hours). However like riding a bike it all flurries back into your mind and I flew what felt like my best lesson to date.
I was going for a lesson today but the weather made it unsuitable for the stall practice on the Cessna (getting last validations done before my first solo). I have 18 hours now, a few of those equate to differences in aircraft and lack of continuity requiring me to tread on old ground a few times.
I am loving the Wellesbourne webcams and weather station - to me this is the icing on the cake as I can see the conditions on the taxiway and outside take-flight, plus see the local weather conditions and get a good idea of what to expect when I arrive!
