Default Hi all its been a long time

Hi Everyone long time since ive been on here

Spent the last few hours reading through the post from hotdog, aviator chris and the rest of the fellow pilots.

Congrats to hotdog and ads on there great acheivement and making there dreams come true im totally jealous of you guys.

Chris i was shocked to see u have put your flying on pause but i understand where u are coming from i didnt want to start my lessons at wellsbourne for that same reason didnt want to have to stop when i was in the middle of my learning hope you get back in the skys soon buddy what school was you at? have you tryied aero's down at wellsbourne i read your membership is 40 a month they charge one off lifetime membership fee think its 110 so could you save a few bucks there??

since i was last on ive had my head in the pilots manuals attempting to juggle work and learning to give myself a headstart before my learning. chris what exams have you passed and how many hours did you get before you stopped ??

i have had another trial lesson down at aero's few weeks ago luved every minute of it just hadto get up there again to convince myself it was worth waiting for.

Good to hear from you after all this time Jiggly. Good also to hear you have had your head in the books! They can be quite interesting but those exams are still a chore and it's nice to have them behind you

i know what you mean ive just had a mountain of reading and a few exams at work as you say glad there behind me now. im half considering whether over the winter months in which there will little or no flying time available due to weather conditions to start taking my exams and getting them under my belt. i know there a time limit once passed but hopefully nxt year try and follow in chris's steps and get my ass up in the sky aim is just to do one solo circuit.

    Welcome back!

Thanks for the congrats. So have you completed any PPL exams yet? I think you should start doing them over the winter but remember there is a limit on the time of completion from the day you last complete your exams to sitting your flying skills test so be careful.

Just out of interest who have you been flying with in Wellesbourne? Its been a while since I popped into Aeros. Also what have you had the trials on?

Hotdog i take it the time will start counting down from when you complete your last ppl exam not the first? i have had 2 trial lesson with aero's both been in the robin but i want to try out the cessna before i commit to starting my ppl/nppl. as to date i havent sat any ppl exams but as stated as considering whether to have a bash at them over the christmas/ early months of nxt year then if passed concentrate on just learning to fly the damn thing lol.

Hi Jiggly!!! Nice to see you back on the forums!!!

Yea its been a tough decision, however I now have a new job starting in November with a much higher salary so hopefully I can save a bit and then get it all finished off in a relatively short time.

I completed my Air Law Exam and then went on to Solo at 22 Hours. Since then been doing loads of Nav and thoroughly enjoying myself visiting all the places I wanted to see from the air. Its nice when the instructor lets you plan the entire trip, you do get the fullest sense of freedom. I am now at 28 hours and would say I am 1 or 2 flights away from doing solo nav's. However with my break now, its likely that experience will be put back a bit.

I love the Cessna 172 at Take Flight, its become my baby as I love everything about it. For me the low-wing aircraft don't do anything, and thats why I've always umm'd and arr'd about going to Aeros on the Robins / Pipers. I didn't get on with the Warrior or the Cirrus SR20 either. Maybe now I've got more hours under my belt I will find those aircraft more comfortable!

I believe its from the date of the last exam but Im really not sure, you should check out LASORS or something. I personally loved the Robin, in fact I flew both the Cessna 172 and the Robin HR200 for about 80 hours on 1 and 50 on the other and I recon the Robin was more enjoyable. In my opinion the better view was had in the Robin- especially good for the busy UK skies, that said the Cessna made looking down on Nav exercises easier. Overall even though more of my time was spent in the Cessna I think the Robin beats it for the glass canopy, even though its not quite as stable as the Cessna.

Could be a good idea to get the exams done first. I did my PPL exams alongside the flying, so that way I could use my flying experience and apply it to the paper books and vice versa. Either way is fine, in New Zealand when I sat my PPL all over again we did the groundschool first then the flying so both ways work. It may be a tiny weeny bit harder to just bash out the exams before the flying though. If you are going to start the study/exams, I recommend hitting Airlaw first, follwed by Comms then Navigation

Not at all Jiggly. You can easily do it without stepping foot in a plane.

Just to back-up what Paul has said. I did all my PPL written exams before ever touching a plane and it was fine. I felt that things made more sense after I had a few lessons but overall, it wasn't a big issue
